Background
The journey...
I heard of massage therapy when a friend of mine took the program at Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapy, although I didn't consider it for myself at the time. As an avid rider my true hope was to find a career in the equestrian community. That changed when a back injury stopped my riding altogether. With no clear thoughts on what I wanted to do I put a dozen 2 year programs into a hat and pulled one out. As it would turn out, Massage Therapy was my lucky ticket in more ways than one. 6 months into the program I was able to get back on my horse, by the end I was able to ride again. Better yet, I had a career that meant something. I had puzzles to figure out and people to help which was worth everything.
A few years later and I love what I was doing but there were some puzzles that I couldn't figure out, why were some people getting better and not others? I enrolled in the Canadian College of Osteopathy for more answers. As a student in the program, the answers were always followed with more questions but learning to view the body differently made a great improvement on people's recovery.
Now graduated from the CCO, the thesis completed and defended, the curiosity and education journey continues. This time into a world of supporting health. As much as I love treating everyone, there is only one me and only so many hours in a day. Understanding what things a client can do to support the gains found in treatment has been a breakthrough for many people, be that other modalities of treatment, tweaks to a diet, changing a movement pattern, or adding a supplement. Disease doesn’t affect just one aspect of the body and neither should treatment.
Being a massage therapist was an incredible base and entry into the world of health. Completing the osteopathic courses, learning about fitness, and applying that education to my many hobbies has created a well rounded picture.
